You know how they say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Now, it does make sense for some things. If you judged brussels sprouts by their outward appearance, you may be missing out on one of the most delicious side dishes when roasted (and topped with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese!).

But when it comes to dating – the cover matters.

Of course, the cover isn’t the only thing. Afterall, you are looking for lasting compatibility and partnership, but there’s no denying that igniting attraction on a first date begins the minute you see your date.

You know that feeling when you walk into a bar or restaurant and see your date looking sexy and chic, you get those instant butterflies. And those little guys can really set the tone for a fun, flirty, and chemistry-filled date with sparks a flyin’.

(And a killer outfit can do just that.)

That’s why we asked Fashion Stylist and Image Consultant, and the founder of Wall St. Stylist, Jacci Jaye to give us some of her must have fashion tips.

One our favorite things about Jacci (besides the fact that none of us should be getting dressed without her!) is she truly understands the needs of busy professionals and the transitioning from day to night – from the boardroom to after work drinks.

So how do you dress to kill and guarantee that second date?

Don’t Forget the Details

When it comes to getting ready for your date, Jacci says it’s all about dressing sharp.

“When a man shows up dressed well – it shows respect,” Jacci shares. She suggests the versatility of colored 5 pocket pants paired with a smart blazer, a crisp button down, a leather belt, and a nice watch.

“Also choose a pair of leather lace ups over loafers. It’s sexier and really radiates a sense of personal style,” Jacci says.

Remember that the key to this look is that every piece is tailored to your body. Fit is everything.

“This look is dapper,” Jacci says. “You will look polished, without appearing stuffy or like you are trying too hard.”

How can men finish their look? Any must have accessories?

Jacci notes that women pay attention to details, so adding finishing touches like interesting socks, a cool belt buckle, or a pocket square will go a long way.

“And it is also another way to infuse your personal style into the mix and give a glimpse into your personality!” Jacci tells us.

Confidence Wins

For that first date, we always tell women to wear a dress. It’s feminine, formal, and fun. So we asked Jacci, how should women choose the best dress?

“When choosing a dress, wear one that flatters your body. You want to accentuate the parts of your body that you are the most confident,” Jacci shares.  “Most importantly, the key to this look is to leave something to the imagination.”

And don’t forget a great pair of heels! Wearing heels elongates your legs more so than with a pair of wedges or flats, and it instantly gives you a powerful confidence when you walk into the room.

Never underestimate the power of proper shape wear, as well for a confidence boost.

“Shapewear is your friend no matter what size you are! It’s all about smooth lines, “ Jacci says. “The right undergarments will smooth the bulges, make your clothes fit properly, and even help with your posture. Remember that the key is presenting your best self. And when you feel beautiful, you look beautiful!”
